Since arriving two weeks ago, I’ve noticed Germans like the Eagles’ song “Hotel California” A LOT. In fact, they have an uncommon devotion to it. Most days I hear it at least twice on the radio. Drunk wedding guests at our hotel sing it at the top of their lungs. It is one of the best songs ever. I’ve always loved it and I remember being shocked and intrigued about the words when I was small–“stabbed it with their steely knives……you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave.” Interesting stuff back then and even now.
But still, what’s going on here? Why soooooo crazy about this song? Did Don Henley die?
